Make an impact on the future of autoimmune disease research, awareness, and education by becoming an AARDA volunteer. Volunteering for AARDA requires only a desire to make a difference and knowledge that every little bit makes a difference. Volunteer Spotlights

Janet DeAustria and Kristina Bachelor, Scio, Oregon

Bikers and covered bridge photoIn September 2008, AARDA was honored to be the beneficiary of a fundraiser headed by volunteers Janet DeAustria and Kristina Bachelor of Scio, Oregon. Five historic covered bridges scattered along 41 miles across Scio, Oregon was the backdrop for this phenomenal fundraiser.

For less than $30 dollars, participants were treated to a beautiful scenic tour of some of the most beautiful covered bridges in the country. The group had photo opportunities and a lovely lunch under the sun. The proceeds donated to AARDA amounted to $2,500!

This is simply one example of what can be accomplished with a bit of creativity, organization, and a desire to make a difference. More than 90% of this donation will go directly to research, education, and advocacy to advance our shared goal of eradicating autoimmune diseases!

Dr. Thienna Ho, Founder of Thienna, Inc.

Who ever said volunteer work had to be dull? Certainly not Dr. Thienna Ho, founder of Thienna, Inc., a skin care company which promotes healthy living and eating. Dr. Thienna hosted a rather unique fundraiser for AARDA on December 20th, 2008.

She attempted and succeeded in breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest wall sit. What's a wall sit? Stand up against a wall and pretend to be sitting in chair. At the age of 41, Dr. Thienna is also the Guinness world record holder for the most sumo squats in one hour. Dr Thienna Ho

Dr. Thienna was successful in obtaining a great deal of awareness for AARDA while doing countless numbers of interviews discussing autoimmunity and AARDA. Dr. Thienna raised funds also by accepting $1 pledges for each hour she wall sat and donating 100% of the proceeds to AARDA! This is a perfect example that, using your own gifts, interest, and talent you can make a big difference for AARDA.
